He attended one-room country schools and Graettinger High School. He served in the United States Marine Corp. After his service, he returned to Iowa and then settled in Fairmont, Minnesota where he drove truck for Blachowske Trucking. Willie married Louise Thomas and to this union four children were born; Deb, Mike, Mark, and Deanna. After Louises death he was united in marriage to Vivian Urban and to this union one daughter Lisa was born. He was proud to have driven in every state except Alaska, Rhode Island and Hawaii. In 2013, William had a slight stroke and had to retire from driving. After his retirement, you would see him cruising around Graettinger in his golf cart painted to match the semi he used to drive.
