Virginia E. Chittenden, 90, of Fort Dodge, died Thursday, July 6, 2006 at the Trinity Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 11, 2006 at the Bruce-Graham Funeral Home and Cremation Center.  Officiating will be the Rev. Tim Geitz of St. Paul Lutheran Church.  Interment will follow in the North Lawn Cemetery.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to service time.

Virginia E. Johnson was born March 21, 1916 the daughter of Charles and Amanda (Boquist) Johnson in West Burlington, IA.  She was educated in the area and later went to work for Bexner Tea Co. in Burlington.

In 1940 Virginia was united in marriage to Edward R. Chittenden the couple resided in New London, IA where Ed was the manager of the Wells Lamont Glove Factory.  Virginia was employed at the Burlington Energy Army Munitions Plant in Middleton, IA.  Eds employment then took Virginia and their daughter, Sheryl Ann, born February 15, 1942, to Chillicothe and Kirkville, MO, and then briefly, while Ed went ahead to Wells Lamonts Glove Factory in Brownsville, TN, Virginia worked for Sylvania in Burlington.  Virginia and Sheryl later joined Ed in Brownsville, TN.

In 1951 the family moved to Fort Dodge, IA where Ed was employed by the Marso Rodenborn Glove Factory.  Virginia became employed as an inspector for Globe Union which later became Centralab.  She was employed with the company for 28 years before retiring.

Virginia was a member of the American Legion Golf Course in Fort Dodge and in 1960 she was Riverview HNCP Champion.  In 1964 she was Legion/Country Club Champion Flight Runner-up and won several other trophies.  The couple enjoyed fishing as well.

Virginia is survived by her only child; Sheryl Ann Chittenden-Voss.

Mrs. Chittenden was preceded in death by her parents, husband; Edward R. Chittenden in 1998, five brothers, three sisters, and a son-in-law Gerald I. Voss in 1991.
