Verna Louise Kaufman was born May 16, 1918 in Fort Dodge, IA to Edward and Elizabeth (Jordison) Reed. She grew up in Coalville and graduated from Otho Public Schools. She then graduated from Tobin Business College where she met her husband, Maynard Kaufman.
Verna worked several clerical positions throughout her career and eventually retired from Lamson Brother's Stock Exchange. Verna and Maynard enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and Europe. She sang with the Sweet Adeline's and participated in many concerts and competitions. Verna was a member of the Aurora Chapter of the Eastern Star, the White Shrine of Jerusalem and the Past Worthy High Priestess Club. Verna was also a member of the Fort Dodge Women's Club. She was a lifetime member of the Coalville Community of Christ where she served as a Sunday school teacher and sang in the choir. During her spare time, Verna enjoyed reading with a focus on Biblical studies and current news. She had a passion for music and spent much time playing the piano.
Verna Louise Kaufman passed away on December 15, 2015 at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa.
She is survived by her two daughters; Marlene (Lyle) Brim of Cedar Falls and Marilyn Laughlin of Des Moines, grandchildren; Michelle (Jeremy) Sorensen, James Laughlin and Jason Laughlin, great grandchildren; Marlena Sorensen, Aiden Sorensen, and Reagan Laughlin, two sisters; Marlys Brigdon of Fort Dodge and Irene Sweatt of Irmo, SC. She is also survived by 4 nieces and 1 nephew.
Verna is preceded in death by her parents, her husband and one sister Merle.
Memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Society.
