Theodore “Ted” A. Shelton, 84, of Fort Dodge, IA, died Tuesday, January 5, 2021, at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home. Memorial services will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, January 8, 2021, at the Historic Bruce Funeral Home, 923 1st Avenue South, with Pastor Howard of the First Baptist Church officiating. Inurnment will take place at North Lawn Cemetery with Military Honors conducted by the VFW Post 1856 and the U.S. Army Funeral Honor Guard. Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, social distancing must be followed and masks are required. Services will also be live streamed via our Historic Bruce Funeral Home Facebook page. Memorials may be directed to the family.
Theodore was born November 13, 1936, in Fort Dodge, the son of H. Orville and Vesta Irene (Cook) Shelton. He attended Fort Dodge Schools and continued his education in General Science. On March 2, 1953, Ted enlisted in the U.S. Army and proudly served his country. Following his honorable discharge on March 16, 1964, Ted joined the U.S. Army Reserves, serving a total of 22 ½ years in the military. Ted was united in marriage to Carol Lee Shelton on July 8, 1997. Over the years, he worked at an assortment of jobs including USG and Hy-Vee until his retirement in 2012. Ted enjoyed wood working and fishing. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Fort Dodge.
Ted is survived by 2 sisters: Mary Worrick of Fort Dodge and Deloris Schultz of Fort Dodge; a son: Mark; and 3 step-children: Diane, Doreen and Jason. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife in 2017; 4 brothers: Kenneth, Paul, Harold and Russell; and 1 sister: Bernice.
