Suzy Petersen

Memorial services for Viola M. “Suzy” Petersen, 87, of Graettinger will be Tuesday, November 10, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Graettinger United Methodist Church with Rev. Rick Johnson officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Graettinger. She died Thursday, November 5, 2015 at the Palo Alto County Hospital in Emmetsburg, Iowa.

Viola Mae Petersen was born January 8, 1928 in Rolfe, Iowa to James and Mae (Smith) Boles. Suzy spent most of her life in and around Graettinger. She attended country school south of Graettinger. On October 1, 1946, she married Alvin A. Petersen in Jackson, Minnesota. The couple farmed in the Graettinger area. Suzy was a great cook and baker and a true farmer's wife, preparing and serving a full meal for the men in the fields. She will always be remembered for her mashed potatoes and meatballs, a recipe passed down from her grandmother. She also enjoyed flowers and was a longtime member of the Graettinger United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her children; Diane (Virgil) Henrickson of Graettinger, Dean (Vicki) Petersen of Graettinger, Pam (Paul) Bisgard of Nashua, Carla (Roger) Rose of Graettinger and Jim (Kelly) Petersen of Graettinger; 16 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers and four sisters.
