Roger E. Johnson Sr., 86, of Eagle Grove, IA died Monday, January 31, 2022, at his home. Graveside services will be held at 1 PM on Thursday, July 21, 2022, at Rose Hill Cemetery in Eagle Grove. A celebration of life gathering will follow from 2:00 PM – 6:00 PM at Eagle Grove Memorial Hall, 200 S. Park Avenue. Memorials may be directed to the family.

Roger Eugene was born July 21, 1935, in Eagle Grove, the son of Carl and Mabel (Baker) Johnson. He attended school in Eagle Grove. On September 23, 1952, Roger enlisted in the U.S. Navy and proudly served his country during the Korean War until his honorable discharge on July 20, 1956. On December 26, 1956, he then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served his country until his honorable discharge on December 8, 1960. On October 20, 1984, Roger was united in marriage to Janice Shelton in Mankato, MN. Roger worked as a mechanic for Chicago and North Western Railroad until his retirement in 1993. Roger enjoyed cars, fishing, camping, remodeling and traveling. He visited almost every state in the U.S. He was a member of Cruising Eagles Car Club.

Roger is survived by his wife of 37 years: Janice Johnson of Eagle Grove; 4 children: Randy Trainor and wife Lynne of Jacksonville, FL, Roger Johnson Jr. and wife Tina of Glenburn, ME, Kendall Johnson and wife Leeann of Eagle Grove, and Matt Johnson of Eagle Grove; 6 grandchildren: Lily Trainor, Alyssa Johnson, Karter Johnson all of Iowa, Nicole Plain, Devon Treadwell-Johnson both of Maine, Jonathan Trainor and wife Hannah of Jacksonville, Florida with 2 great grandsons Mason and Camden; 2 older great grandchildren: Tyler and Taylor, parents are Chris and Nicole Plain all of Maine. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers: Donald Johnson, Richard Johnson and Dave Johnson; and Rogers former wife and mother to Roger Jr. & Kendall: Mary Lou Kist.
