Rodger was born January 5, 1938, to the late Paul Thorn and Mabel (Larsen) Thorn. He was 6th in line of the family of 10 children (4 boys and 6 girls). He hauled a lot of grain for his father. He also worked at National Gypsum Mills, Standard Engineering for quite a few years and then went on to work at Farm Egg. He retired in June of 2002. He also liked to garden and for several years canned a lot of what was planted. He was also an outdoors person who liked to hunt and fish. Sharon went with him on a lot of those fishing trips. Fishing was “super” good. Rodger loved being around his family doing things with them especially at “picnic time”.

Rodger married the love of his life, Sharon Hiveley, on September 19, 1971, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Fort Dodge. This happy time lasted 49 ½ years.

Rodger is survived by his wife: Sharon Thorn; sisters: Mildred Steineck of Boone, IA, Mary Lee Ingalls of Alleman, IA, Joyce Goos of Boone, IA and Dianne Christianson of California. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Rodger was preceded in death by his parents: Paul and Mabel (Larsen) Thorn; brothers: Robert “Bill” Thorn, Melvin Thorn and Jerry Thorn; and sisters: Marian (Thorn) McArthur and Violet (Thorn) Ahrens.
