Richard Sterns

Funeral Services for Richard D. Sterns 88 of Fort Dodge will be Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at 1:00 pm at the Historic Bruce Funeral Home in Fort Dodge with Rev. Allen Henderson officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday 4pm to 7pm and continue on Wednesday one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Interment with full military honors provided by the United States Air Force and the Fort Dodge V.F.W. Post 1856 will be at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Richard Dean Sterns was born November 3, 1929 in Adair County near Corning, Iowa to Donald and Mabel (Botkin) Sterns. He graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High in 1948. Dick served in the United States Air Force from November 1951 through December of 1952. He continued serving his country for an additional twenty years in the Air Force National Guard. Dick was united in marriage to Beverly Whitcome on June 1, 1952 in Fort Dodge. Dick worked for Iowa Illinois Electric Company, later Mid American, for 43 years. He was a member of the Civitan Club, Chamber of Commerce and Charter member of the Fort Dodge Rifle and Pistol Club, and served on the board of the Credit Bureau. Dick loved his dogs and was an outdoorsman. He enjoyed his outings at Brushy Creek and his adventures with his friend “Butch”. He loved to garden, especially growing a hundred tomato plants so he could make his famous salsa. He was a former Dodger wrestler and enthusiastic Dodger wrestling fan.

On January 11, 2018, Richard Dean Sterns died at Fort Dodge Health and Rehab Center.

He is survived by his children; Thomas Sterns of Fort Dodge, Peggy (Kevin) Edwards of Badger and Pamela (Rick) Pingel of Fort Dodge, 4 grandchildren; Meghan Lamoureux, Emily Stucky, Hannah Waller & Max Edwards, 9 great grandchildren; Charlie, Jack & Erin Stucky, Brooklyn, Carson, & Joey Lamoureux and Brycen, Paxton & Jim Waller. He is also survived by his special friend Rose Harris. Dick was preceded in death by his parents, wife Beverly in 2000, son Mitch and two brothers Bob and Chuck.
