Richard R. Phillips
Richard “Dick” R. Phillips, 80, of Fort Dodge, died Monday, June 28, 2004 at his residence.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 1, 2004 at the St. Olaf Lutheran Church with the Rev. David Grindburg officiating. Interment will follow in the North Lawn Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by the VFW Post 1856. Visitation will be held from 4 until 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Bruce~Graham Funeral Home and Cremation Center.
Dick was born May 26, 1924 the son of Ray and Josephine (Knutson) Phillips in Pioneer, IA. He attended school in Livermore, IA. In September of 1942 Dick enlisted in the United States Marine Corp. He served his country until his honorable discharge in October of 1945. During his tour of duty Dick received the Purple Heart.
On May 12, 1946 Richard was united in marriage to Violet Lund at the Badger Lutheran Church.
Dick later went to work as an L.P. Gas delivery and service technician for Ferrellgas until his retirement in June of 1989.
Richard was a lifetime member of VFW Post 1856, the Disabled American Veterans, a member of the American Legion, and a member of the St. Olaf Lutheran Church.
Those thankful for having shared in Dick’s life include his wife Violet, children Douglas (Jeanne) Phillips of Ankeny, Ronald (Sharon) Phillips of Fort Dodge, Susan (Bill) Posey of Fort Dodge, David Phillips of Ackley, Tim (Janet) Phillips of Altoona, and Danny Phillips of Fort Dodge, 2 brothers, Don (May) Phillips of New Harmony, IN, Jerry (Dorothy) Phillips of Columbus Junction, IA, one sister, Judy (Joe) Vislisel of Robins, IA, 14 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren.
Mr. Phillips was preceded in death by his father Ray in 1967, mother Josephine in 1983, one son Randall in 1993, and one grandson Nicholas Phillips.
