Richard O. Froisland, 78, of Moorland died Sunday, September 18, 2005 at the Trinity Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, September 20, 2005 at the Fulton Lutheran Church, Roelyn.  Officiating will be the Rev. Jim Davis.  Interment will follow in the Fulton Lutheran Cemetery.  Visitation will be held from 4 until 8 p.m. Monday at Bruce-Graham Funeral Home and Cremation Center.

Richard was born September 22, 1926 in Walsenburg, CO to Ole and Isabelle (Petersen) Froisland.  In 1932 Richard moved to Moorland, IA and lived with his foster parents, Chris and Marie Gjerland.  He attended country school and in 1945 graduated from Moorland High School.  In June of 1945, Richard was called to serve his country in the United States Army and was honorably discharged at the rank of T5 on December 15, 1946.  In the fall of 1947 Richard enrolled at Waldorf College.  While attending school he experienced and learned good Christian principles for life from teachers and students. 

Richard was also blessed with the opportunity to meet his future wife Marjorie Tweedt.  They were united in marriage on October 22, 1949 in Estherville, IA.  Richard worked in a welding shop and learned steel fabrication in Estherville and later worked at New Idea until it closed.  He was a member of Steelworkers Union and did structural construction welding.  Following the closing of New Idea Richard went to work for Buske Ind., Gowrie for 17 years.  He also farmed, which was his hobby, for 35 years. 

Richard participated in a cancer research program in Iowa City to detect where the cancer is located, which proved to be successful and has greatly improved over the years.  He also took part in a research program through the Mayo Clinic that studied the prostate cancer.

Those thankful for having shared in Richards life include his wife; Marjorie, two sons; James (Mary) Froisland of St. Charles, IL, Jeffrey Froisland of Scottsdale, AZ, one daughter; Marcia (Don) Nelson of San Antonio, TX, one sister Betty Long, six grandchildren; Erin Pennington, Jennifer Froisland, Andrew Nelson, Stephanie Richardson, Chris Froisland, and Signe Froisland.

Mr. Froisland was preceded in death by his parents, foster parents, baby daughter; Michelle Ann, two sisters; Melva and Marcella, father in law and mother in law, John and Gena Tweedt, and step mother in law, Gladys Tweedt.
