Rev. Dolly Maxine Nelson

 

Reverend Dolly Maxine Nelson, 87, of Fort Dodge, made her journey home to be with her Lord, Saturday February 25, 2012.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 28, 2012 at the Bruce-Graham Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Fort Dodge Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 until 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Dolly was born January 14, 1925, the daughter of Lawrence and Birdie (Cupp) Fox in Gilmore City, Iowa. At the age of 17 Dolly moved to Fort Dodge working at Brooks Laundry. On January 14, 1947 Dolly was united in marriage to Mark Earl Nelson, Sr. To this union nine children were born.

Dolly taught adult and children Sunday School for a great part of her Christian service. She was the Pastor of the Fort Dodge Temple of Praise for 17 years. She was also a disc jockey for the first Christian radio station, KTGA in her early 50s. Reverend Dolly faithfully held religious services at Ellens Nursing Home every Monday for 3 or 4 years. She was the Pastor for the YOUR Program for 2 years, which was a ministry for the needy, gathering and distributing food and offering hope through prayer and understanding. She also worked with the Gideons and at the age of 75 she would preach at the jails. Her last ministry assignment was working with John Miller at Jesus on the Move. Her responsibilities included food and clothing distribution and offering prayer and counseling to those in need.

Dolly loved to read as well as crochet, quilt and watch the birds.

 

Those thankful for having shared in Dollys life include her children, Terry Nelson, Dr. Sandra (Rev. Dennis) Toyne, Ken (Barbara) Nelson, Bob (Kollette) Nelson, James Randy Nelson, Rhoda (Hank) Wolfe, Lanita (Mike) Lane and John Nelson. Dolly and Mark enjoyed all of their 26 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren.

Mrs. Nelson was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Birdie Fox, eldest son, Mark Earl Nelson, Jr., sisters, Pauline, Lula, Betty, Dena, brothers, Omar Ray, Edward and John.
