Raymond E. Elliott
Raymond E. Elliott, 95, formerly of rural Fort Dodge, died Tuesday, July 3, at Ramsey Village in Des Moines, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 10, at the Bruce-Graham Funeral Home in Fort Dodge with Pastor Dwight Warden officiating. A visitation will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home preceding the services. Interment will follow at the North Lawn Cemetery.
Raymond was born November 18, 1911 the son of Frank E. and Bessie Lyle (Groat) Elliott in Fort Dodge where he graduated from high school with the class of 1928. Despite excelling in school, the Great Depression forced him to work in his familys businesses until he joined the United States Gypsum Company. He remained at USG for 42 years working in a wide variety of positions and supervisory roles. He was a strong advocate for employee safety.
On September 23, 1933, Raymond was united in marriage to LaMyrel Pavey. Their marriage was blessed with two children; Anita Joan Deitrick and David Elliott both currently of Des Moines.
He continued working at a local bank until he moved to the Des Moines area where he was employed at the Hyperion Field Club. Raymond refused to completely retire until he was 80 and then relaxed by building an addition to his garage and a deck.
Following LaMyrels death in 1984, Raymond was united in marriage to Earline Layton on April 28, 1987. Earline brought four of her own children to their marriage; James Layton, Jeff Layton, JoAnn Layton, and Jerry Layton.
Those thankful for having shared in Raymonds life include his wife Earline, two children; Anita Joan Elliott Deitrick and her husband Robert of Urbandale, David Elliott and his wife Marie Kresse of Des Moines, one sister; Betty Jean Elliott Peterson, six grandchildren; Lorraine (Dwight) Warden, David Deitrick, Julie (Rick) Leverett, Kathy (Mike) Johnson, Erin Elliott and Stephen Elliott, 11 great grandchildren and 3 great-great granddaughters.
Mr. Elliott was preceded in death by his parents, wife LaMyrel, two sisters and one brother.
