Phyllis Eileen Smith
Phyllis Eileen Smith, 95, of Fort Dodge, died Wednesday September 29, 2010 at the Bickford Cottages.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, October 2, 2010 at the North Lawn Cemetery with the Rev. Gary Snook officiating.
Phyllis was born in Fort Dodge on August 16, 1915 to George and Ada Nygen. She has lived in Fort Dodge most of her life. She graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High School in 1933 and from The Kennedy School of Beauty in Des Moines, Iowa in 1936. She worked as a hair stylist in Des Moines for a few years before returning to Fort Dodge to continue her business in her home. She later worked in the Womens Clothing Department at the Boston Store. Phyllis married Elliot F. Smith on October 19, 1941. He passed away in 1986. Phyllis was an excellent seamstress and did alterations for many people. She also enjoyed crocheting and knitting and many of her projects were given to family members. Her favorite activity was traveling with her husband. She was an active member of Epworth for many years and a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary.
Mrs. Elliot Smith was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Elliot, a brother Everette, two sisters, Mildred and Inez.
Phyllis is survived by her great niece, Cynthia Winkle, of Brooks, GA., brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Lawrence and Dorothy Willardson of Gowrie, and sister-in-law Annabel Smith of Burkburnett, Texas, as well as many nieces and nephews.
