Funeral services for Phyllis B. (Hanson) Christensen 89 of Gowrie formerly of Callender and Fort Dodge, will be Saturday, December 20, 2014 at 1:30 p.m. at Our Saviours Lutheran Church in Callender with Rev. Jon Rollefson officiating. Visitation will be 11:30 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be in Roland Township Cemetery, Callender. Phyllis died at the Gowrie Care Center in Gowrie, Iowa on December 16, 2014.
Phyllis Berniece Christensen was born in Callender, Iowa on September 14, 1925 to Carl and Ila (Swanson) Hanson. She attended and graduated from Callender High School and went on to Normal Teachers College in Cedar Falls. She finished her education at Dana College in Blair, Nebraska. Phyllis was united in marriage to Oswald Christensen on August 7, 1949 at Roland Township Church. She taught school briefly and then stayed home to raise her 5 children. She later worked as a housekeeper at Trinity Regional Hospital and worked at the animal hospital. Phyllis was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church, an avid reader and enjoyed dogs; having many pets throughout her life.
She is survived by her children: Charles (Neva) Christensen of Lexington, KY, Carl (Celeste) Christensen of Fertile, IA, Cynthia (Mike) Heires of Cedar Rapids, and Cheri Manning of Iowa Falls; eleven grandchildren: Jason Heires, Tonya (Steve) Paro, Nicole (Andy) DeVillers, Owen (Viki) Heires, Kamber (Steve) Schneider, Chi (Josh) Martin, Kendra (A.J.) Stich, Cade Christensen, Tia Heires, Parker Manning, and Forest Manning and eight great grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Evelyn Peterson of Galva,IL and Carol (Jerry) Mobley of Cedar Rapids.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Oswald in 2011, son Craig and sister, Eunice and three brothers in infancy.
