Phillip “Phil” F. Thompson, 83, of Fort Dodge, IA, died Wednesday, May 19, 2021, at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home. Private family services will be held at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the family.
Phillip was born November 18, 1937, in Webster City, IA, the son of Russell A. and Ethel M. (Thurmond) Thompson. He graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High (where he was captain of the football team) in 1956, and continued his education at Fort Dodge Junior College. On November 7, 1959, he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Ikenberry at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Fort Dodge. He worked at Phillips for 30 years until his retirement in 1988. Phil enjoyed spending time with his family and gathering with his friends at Lefti's. He also enjoyed fishing, yard work, puttering around the garage and watching football & baseball.
Phil is survived by his wife of 61 years: Liz Thompson of Fort Dodge; 3 children: Beth Garlie and husband Scott of Prior Lake, MN, Lora Ray and husband Dan of Burnsville, MN, and Dan Thompson and partner Barry Haley of Dallas, TX; 6 grandchildren: Adam, Alyson, Abby, Samantha, Tyler and Natalie; and 5 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his best friend of 65 years: Al Messerly of Fort Dodge.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
