Orval H. Ramus

 Orval H. Ramus, 98, of Fort Dodge, died Monday March 26, 2012 at the Marian Home.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday March 30, 2012 at the St. Paul Lutheran Church with Pastor Nathan Peitsch officiating. Interment will follow in the North Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service time Friday at the church.

Orval was born June 29, 1913 the son of Ernest and Martha (Lau) Ramus in Algona, Iowa. He was united in marriage to Velma Meyer on June 29, 1939 in LuVerne, Iowa. On December 4, 1943 Orval entered into active duty with the United States Army serving as a medic until his honorable discharge on January 9, 1946. Following his service to his country, Orval returned to operate his painting and wall paper hanging business.

Orval loved the outdoors especially when he was able to go fishing. He enjoyed tending to his garden and reaping the bounties from it. Orval had a musical talent that included singing and playing both guitar and organ. He was a longtime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church.

Those thankful for having shared in Orvals life include his wife, Velma, children, LaVonne (Kenneth) Lewis of Florida, Carol (Steve) Page of Iowa, David (Sharon) Ramus of Iowa, seven grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.

Mr. Ramus was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, one brother and a grandson.
