Opal "Pally" M. Hudson, 96, of Davenport, IA, and formerly of Fort Dodge, IA, died Thursday, December 5, 2024, at the Genesis Medical Center in Davenport. Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM on Sunday, December 15, 2024, at the Historic Bruce Funeral Home, 923 1st Avenue South – Fort Dodge. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, December 16, 2024, at North Lawn Cemetery with Pastor Mike Crawford officiating. Memorials may be directed to the family. Arrangements are with Historic Bruce Funeral Home of Fort Dodge.
Opal was born January 13, 1928, in Fort Dodge, the daughter of Robert and Linnie (Messerly) Porter. She graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High in 1945. On September 21, 1948, she was united in marriage to Dale W. Hudson at her home in Webster County. While in Minnesota, Pally and her husband worked in Christian missions in Sunberg and Redwood Falls; and later co-managed the Villa Apartments in Parkview, IA. She was a member of the Faith Baptist Church. A woman of faith, Pally found strength and guidance in her daily reading of the Bible, embracing her spirituality with unwavering commitment. This deep connection to her faith and the Lord formed the cornerstone of her life, influencing the way she nurtured those around her. She enjoyed shopping, finding joy in small treasures and everyday wonders. Yet, it was the time spent with her children and grandchildren that she cherished most. As a devoted homemaker, she dedicated countless hours to ensuring her family's happiness and well-being. She was present at every school activity, cheering on her children with pride and enthusiasm. Her nurturing spirit and unwavering support have cemented her role as a beloved matriarch, forever remembered for the comfort and stability she provided. Opal's love of reading was another defining aspect of her life. She immersed herself in countless books over the years.
Pally is survived by her children: Naomi LaVonne (Jim) Skadal, Larry (Carol) Hudson, Nanette (Scot) Loveless and Ronny (Jode Moren) Hudson; 9 grandchildren: Michelle (Victor) Sosnowski, Wendy (Tom) Salas, Jimmy (Stephanie) Skadal, Nick (Becca) Swanson, Christian (Evianne) Swanson, Tony (Cory) Hudson, Lydia (Scott) Betz, Cameron Hudson and Clarissa Hudson; and 17 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 2010; and 9 siblings.
