Nina Louise Swalla, 94, of Fort Dodge, died Sunday, November 9, 2008 at the Tompkins Memorial Health Center. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, November 13, 2008 at the Trinity United Methodist Church with the Rev. Anita Johnson, chaplain of Friendship Haven, officiating.  Interment will follow in the North Lawn Cemetery.  Visitation will be held from 5 until 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Bruce-Graham Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be left to the discretion of the family. Nina was born January 15, 1914 the daughter of William and Anna Grigsby Allen in rural Polk County.  At the age of 16 Nina was united in marriage to Donald LeRoy Swalla in Polk City, Iowa.  To this union six children were born. Nina retired from the Friendship Haven staff after several years of dedicated service. Nina was an artist who enjoyed painting, working with her flowers, or taking family pictures weather they wanted their picture taken or not.  She was a collector of owls and angels and always enjoyed adding to her extensive collections.  Nina loved to cook and share her talents with her family.  Nina was a member on the Trinity United Methodist Church, several different church organizations over the years and a former member of the Eastern Star. Those thankful for having shared in Ninas life include her four children; Eugene (Lisetta) Swalla of Fort Dodge, Albert (Irene) Swalla of Newton, Donna Fouts of Fort Dodge, Dennis Sandy Swalla of Newton, twenty-four grandchildren, fifty great grandchildren, twenty-one great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Swalla was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two children; Baby Swalla, William Swalla and five siblings.
