Miles J. Volf
Miles John Volf, 91, of Fort Dodge, died Wednesday, July 28, 2010 at the Trinity Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday August 3, 2010 at the Bruce-Graham Funeral Home with the Rev. Gary Snook officiating. Interment will follow in the Elkhorn Township Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday from 5 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Miles John Volf was born on November 23, 1918 in Lyra, TX to Frank and Frances Volf, immigrants from Czechoslovakia. As a small child, he moved to the Otho area, and graduated from the Otho Public School. He served with the 555th Engineers Corp in the European Theatre during WWII.
On April 8, 1944, he was united in marriage to Frances Ann Urban. They established a home in Fort Dodge following his honorable discharge from the United States Army, and then later moved to Otho.
Miles was a member of the Otho United Methodist Church, the ZCBJ Lodge, and was very proud of his Czech heritage. He was a long-time employee of Cargill and Land O Lakes.
Those thankful for sharing in Miles life include his daughter, Mary Jane (Jim) Nostrom of Humboldt, Jerry (Jackie) Volf of Redmond, OR and John (Cindy) Volf of Fort Dodge, several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Mr. Volf was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Frances, and a brother and sister.
Miles was an accomplished musician, playing several instruments. He was a member of a few dance bands and one of the Button Box Boys. He was always willing to share his talent and make people smile. Miles will be remembered as constantly having music with him by either humming, whistling or singing. He brought joy everywhere he went.
