Michael Ulicki, Jr., 85, died Thursday, May 12, 2005 at the Tompkins Memorial Health Center.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday, May 16, 2005 at the Bruce-Graham Funeral Home and Cremation Center. Interment will follow in the Fort Dodge Memorial Park Cemetery with military rites conducted by the VFW Post 1856. Visitation will be held from 6until 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Michael was born on March 9, 1920 in Fort Dodge, IA the son of Michael and Julia (Lichnenec) Ulicki, Sr. He graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High School in the class of 1938. Following high school Mike went to work at the National Gypsum Co., from 1939 until 1942.

Mike then enlisted in the United States Army and served with the 18th Wing-308th Bombing Squadron at the Army Air Base, Wendover, Utah as a tail gunner and received an honorable discharge in 1943.

Mike returned home and was married to Fern Phillips in 1944 to this union Thomas and Michael III were born.

Michael was in partnership with John and Frank Ulicki in the manufacturing of concrete blocks and drainage tile, and the welding company from 1945 thru 1955 in Fort Dodge.

Mike left the Ulicki Bros. business in 1955 to become a fulltime horse breeder and trainer. He also boarded many horses for people around the area. Mike was involved in and promoted the Iowa Quarter Horse Association. For many years he was a judge for the American Quarter Horse Association. Later in life he sold insurance products.

Mike loved music and was an avid steel guitar player, and loved to golf and work in his garden.

Michael is survived by his brothers; John Ulicki of Fort Dodge, Frank (Millie) Ulicki of Lehigh, one sister, Lillian Wiegert of Rose Creek, MN, and many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Ulicki was preceded in death by Parents, wife Fern, two sons Thomas and Michael III, and one sister Judy Sotzen.
