Michael R. Spencer

Michael R. Spencer, 73, of Fort Dodge, IA, died Friday, March 27, 2020, at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home. Private family graveside services will be held at Mt. Hope Cemetery (a.k.a. East Liberty Cemetery) in Lidderdale, IA at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the family.

Michael was born August 6, 1946, in Lake City, IA, the son of Ralph and Esther (Paulsen) Spencer. He graduated from St. Edmonds High School in 1964. On May 14, 1966, he was united in marriage to Teresa S. Ruby at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Fort Dodge. Over the years, Michael worked at USG and Hormel until his retirement in 2002. Michael enjoyed fishing and passed his skills on to his nieces and nephews. He also enjoyed spending time with family, watching TV, sitting on the deck and grilling. He was a member of the Moose Lodge.

Michael is survived by his wife of 53 years: Teresa Spencer of Fort Dodge; son: Michael Spencer Jr. and wife Hope of Gates, NC; 2 brothers: Robert Spencer and wife Laura of Fort Dodge and Karl Spencer and wife Donna of Las Vegas, NV; mother-in-law: Luella Ruby of Otho, IA; brothers-in-law: Kurt Ruby and wife Rhonda and Craig Ruby and wife Carol of Fort Dodge; sister-in-law: Diane White and significant other Rod of Fort Dodge. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews & a great great niece and many adopted niece & nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Ralph & Esther Spencer; daughter: Cynthia Spencer; sister: Sandra Graybill; niece: Katheryn Rose; and mother-in-law: Mary Rose and her husband Ray Henningsen; mother-in-law: MaryAnne Jones; father-in-law: Jerry Ruby; & brother-in-law: Tim Ruby.  Services will be at a later date.
