Michael L. Lau, 66, of Fort Dodge, IA, died Friday, August 20, 2021, at Unity Point – Trinity Regional Medical Center. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, August 25, 2021, at Memorial Park Cemetery with Pastor John Jahnke of St. Paul Lutheran Church officiating. Military honors will be conducted by VFW Post 1856 and the U.S. Army Honor Guard. Memorials may be directed to the family.
Michael was born September 21, 1954, in Fort Dodge, the son of Albert and Kathryn A. (Smith) Lau. He graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High in 1972. In 1972, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and proudly served his country until his honorable discharge in 1978. Michael did contract labor and traveled the country for many years. He enjoyed the outdoors, target practice and sitting on his deck with his animals. He was a member of the Moose Lodge and the VFW.
Michael is survived by his son: Michael A. Lau and wife Courtney of Tucson, AZ; 2 grandchildren: Parker and Peyton; 2 siblings: Carol Davis and husband John of Fort Dodge and Tom Lau and wife Glenna of Florida; 2 sisters-in-law: Liz Crittenden of Texas and Betty Lau of Wisconsin; special niece: Karry Auten and wife Mary of Fort Dodge; as well as many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his dog: Kirrah; and 2 cats: Eli and Sasha.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers: Max Crittenden; Butch Lau and wife Fay, and Larry Lau; and a sister: Janice Auten and husband Doug.
