Marlys N. Brigdon, 99, of Spring Hill, KS, and formerly of Fort Dodge, IA, died Wednesday, May 20, 2020, at the Olathe Medical Center in Olathe, KS. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, May 30, 2020, at the Historic Bruce Funeral Home, 923 1st Avenue South – Fort Dodge, with Elder Ray Powell and Pastor Ron Dunsdon officiating. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, social distancing must be followed by attendees. Memorials may be directed to the family.
Marlys was born December 19, 1920, in Fort Dodge, the daughter of Edward and Elizabeth (Jordison) Reed. She graduated from Otho High School in 1939, and continued her education at Fort Dodge Community College. On August 31, 1945, she was united in marriage to Jack Brigdon in Pensacola, FL. While in Florida, Marlys worked as a civilian secretary for the U.S. Navy at the Naval Air Station in Pensacola. She was also a homemaker who enjoyed reading, traveling and visiting with family & friends. Marlys was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints in Coalville, IA.
Marlys is survived by her daughter: Jacqueline Smith and husband Ken of Spring Hill, KS; daughter-in-law: Lynn Brigdon of Columbus, OH; 6 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and a sister: Irene Sweatt of Columbia, SC. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1984; 3 sons: David, Edward and Thomas Brigdon; a daughter: Carmen Brigdon; and 3 siblings: Verna Kauffman, Richard Reed and Merle Brooks.
