Graveside services for Marjorie J. Walz 90 of Fort Dodge will be March 17, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at St Patrick's Cemetery in Estherville, Iowa with Fr. Merlin Schrad officiating.
Marjorie Jean Walz was born May 9, 1926 in Estherville, Iowa to Raymond and Myrtle (Carnahan) Kennedy. Marjorie was baptized and confirmed at St. Patrick's Church in Estherville. She grew up in the Estherville area and graduated from Estherville High School in 1944. Marjorie worked summers for four years during high school, as the first female lifeguard at the Estherville City Pool.
She was united in marriage to Donald C. Walz on March 2, 1946 and to this union two daughters were born, Portia and Retha. The couple moved to Fort Dodge in 1961, when her husband was transferred here for work. Marjorie worked at K-Mart for over 15 years, retiring in 1988. She was a member of the Estherville VFW Auxiliary #3388, a Girl Scout leader for many years and enjoyed knitting, crocheting and crafts of all kinds.
Marjorie died at Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge on March 7, 2017. She is survived by her daughter Retha Howell of Fort Dodge, grandchildren; Dawne (Ryan) Schmidt, Troy Jackson and Tracy Jackson and great grand children; Ethan, Evan, and Elliot Schmidt. She is also survived by adopted daughter Cindy McCarthy and her children Maddy and Derrick.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband in 1997, daughter Portia and brother Robert.
Historic Bruce Funeral Home of Fort Dodge was entrusted with the arrangements.
