Lucian “Lou” Mehl, 85 of Fort Dodge, died Friday, June 10, 2011 at the Trinity Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday June 14, 2011 at the West Side United Church of Christ. Interment will follow in the Vegors Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 until 7 p.m. Monday at the church.
Lou was born November 2, 1925 in Fonda, Iowa the son of John and Esther (Melohne) Mehl. On May 5, 1946 Lou was united in marriage to Norma Jones in Burnside, Iowa. To this union five children were born.
Lou enjoyed collecting tractors, both toy and full sized. He spent hours tinkering and fixing things for everyone. Over the years he became famous for his oyster stew. He enjoyed keeping his special recipe a secret. Lou loved hunting, fishing, going to thresher shows and just being outdoors. Lou also enjoyed checking out the gravel roads with his trusty companion “Chrissie”. He was a member of the West Side Church of Christ and the Albert City Threshers Club.
Those thankful for having shared in Lous life include his wife, Norma, children, Linda (Gary) Buttz, Galen (Judy) Mehl, Diane (Dan) Tague, Tim (Deb) Mehl, Lisa (Loren) Anderson, a niece, Karen Johnson, thirteen grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren and “Chrissie” his best friend and driving companion.
Mr. Mehl was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Phyllis Lundsford, one brother John Mehl, cousin, Fred Melohne and a niece, Bobbie.
