LeRoy “Pete” Jorgen Paulsen, 91 of Meriden, KS received his calling to the Lord on December 25, 2014 at Midland Hospice in Topeka, KS. He was born April 19, 1923 to Elva (Halvorson) and Jorgen Paulsen. Pete was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Church in Graettinger, IA. He was drafted in 1943 and served in the European Theatre in the Army Air Corp and was honorably discharged in 1945. He married Gertrude Mary Martinson in Graettinger, IA on February 10, 1948. They moved to Topeka and Pete worked for Jordan-Sunbeam Bakery. He later worked twenty years for Jefferson County Road Dept. In 1960 they moved to Rock Creek, KS and owned and operated a dairy farm with beef cattle until 2000. They were members of Calvary Lutheran Church since 1965. He is a member of the VFW Post No. 10815 in Meriden, KS and the American Legion Post No. 225 in Ozawkie, KS. Pete was an enthusiast of horse drawn equipment and the workhorses that pulled them. He also enjoyed going to the cattle sales at the Holton Livestock Exchange. Pete is survived by: two sisters Helen Westfall of Graettinger, IA and JoAnn (Jim) Schoning of Ruthven, IA; his daughter Linda Barbery (Paulsen) of Meriden, KS; his son Robert Paulsen of Topeka, KS; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; his brother-in-law Richard Schany; many nieces and nephews; and other relatives. He was preceded in death by: his parents Jorgen and Elva; his wife Gertie; sisters Minerva Russell, Bonnie Harrelson, and Deloris Rickert; sisters-in-law Bettie Marie Schany and Maxine Potter; and five brothers-in-laws. Funeral services will be held at Bethel Lutheran Church in Graettinger and internment at Lost Island Cemetery.
Memorials are preferred to Calvary Lutheran Church or Midland Hospice in Topeka, KS
