Larry A. Bockoven, 74, of Fort Dodge, IA, died Tuesday, November 16, 2021, at Fort Dodge Health and Rehab. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, November 19, 2021, at the Historic Bruce Funeral Home, 923 1st Avenue South, with Pastor Dale Harlow of Northfield Church of Christ officiating. Military Honors will be conducted by VFW Post 1856 and the U.S. Army Honor Guard. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. A private family inurnment will take place at West Lawn Cemetery in Lehigh. Memorials may be directed to the family.
Larry was born December 23, 1946, in Fort Dodge, the son of Willard Leroy and Dorothy Evelyn (Graves) Bockoven. He attended Fort Dodge Senior High. In 1966, Larry enlisted in the U.S. Army and proudly served his country during the Vietnam War until his honorable discharge in 1969. On March 16, 1970, he married Bev Bailey in Fort Dodge and to this union two children were born: Kristina and Scott. The couple later divorced. Larry worked in the Janitorial Industry. Larry enjoyed watching TV – especially Westerns, playing with his dogs, and working on cars & hot rods.
Larry is survived by his son: Scott Bockoven and wife Tonya of Humboldt, IA; daughter: Kristina Bockoven of Fort Dodge; 4 grandchildren: Julien, Denver, Alisa and Ahron; 4 great grandchildren; 2 sisters: Judy Thompson and husband Dave of Gilmore City, IA, and Brenda Garrett and husband Jerry of Fort Dodge. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, as well as his dog: “Junior”.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister: Barbara Oleson; and his dog: “Steel”.
