Katherine Ackerson

Graveside services for Katherine Ackerson 87 of Des Moines, formerly of Fort Dodge will be Thursday, March 20, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Fort Dodge Memorial Park Cemetery. She died Monday, March 17, 2014 at her daughters home in Des Moines. Katherine L.  Ackerson was born February 18, 1927 in Fort Dodge, Iowa to Edwin and Mary (Dillingham) Merrill.  She grew up in Fort Dodge and attended Fort Dodge Schools.  She was united in marriage to Ned Ackerson on June 1, 1946 in Fort Dodge.  To this union six children were born; Michael, Patrick, Rebecca, Edwin, Mary and John.  During World War II Katherine worked in one of our Defense Factories.  She was known as a great cook and worked at several area restaurants.  She was a long time member of the V.F.W. ladies auxiliary.  She enjoyed reading, crocheting, cooking and being a Minnesota Viking fan. Katherine is survived by her children; Michael (Karen) Ackerson of Rockwell City, Rebecca (Ivan) Harrison of Fort Dodge, Edwin Ackerson of Fort Dodge, Mary (Phil) McGruder of Des Moines and John Ackerson of Fort Dodge, 17 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren, and 5 great great grandchildren.  She is also survived by one sister Polly of Hibbing, MN. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband in 1987, son Patrick, two sisters Mary Lou and Evelyn, and 3 grandchildren.
