Karen M. Costello, 66, of Fort Dodge, IA, died Wednesday, May 22, 2024, at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home.  Private family services will be held at a later date.  Memorials may be directed to the family.  Arrangements are with Historic Bruce Funeral Home of Fort Dodge.

 

Karen was born January 10, 1958, in Fort Dodge, the daughter of Arthur E. and Sibyl E. (Grisham) Sorensen.   She graduated from Gilmore City Bradgate High School in 1976 before furthering her education at Iowa Central Community College.  She was a dedicated employee at Fort Dodge Labs for numerous years and a proud 35-year member of the UFCW Union.  On July 16, 2004, she was united in marriage to Paul Costello in Fort Dodge.  Karen found joy and fulfillment in various hobbies and interests.  An accomplished cook, avid gardener, and voracious reader, she embraced the simple pleasures of life with infectious enthusiasm. Her green thumb and culinary skills brought warmth and comfort to those around her.  

 

Karen is survived by her husband of nearly 20 years:  Paul Costello of Fort Dodge; 2 children:  Austin Moore of Fort Dodge and Karri Ertl of Fort Dodge; 3 step-children:  Louise Hayes and husband Phil of the U.K., William Costello of the U.K., and Rose Costello and significant other:  Ash Jackson of the U.K., 11 grandchildren:  Taeton, Hayden, Jaelen, Leigh, Ruby, Harvey, Lexi, Kayla Rae, Max, Laci and Evie; 4 siblings:  Calvin Sorensen and wife Jane of Ames, IA, Ardis Sorensen of Fort Dodge, Susan Oviatt and husband Dan of Grand Junction, CO, and Donald Sorensen of Dakota City, IA; and mother-in-law:  Joan King of Orba Spain.  She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews & great great nieces and nephews.    

 

She was preceded in death by her parents; grandchild:  Pheobe; and sister-in-law:  Valerie Sorensen.
