Joyce Sassman, age 82, passed away on July 19, 2016 at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home. Private family services will take place at a later date.
Joyce Marlene (Heetland) Sassman was born on August 6, 1933 at St. Anne's Hospital in Algona, Iowa, the only child of Louis and Irene (Penticost) Heetland. She was baptized as an infant into the Methodist Faith. She attended and graduated from Boone Valley High School in Renwick, Iowa. After graduation she was united in marriage to Raymond Sassman on April 23, 1955. The couple made their home in Renwick, where she would answer phones for the Renwick fire and ambulance, as well as Swanson's Oil Service. They moved to Fort Dodge in the early 1980's, where Joyce enjoyed having a daycare in her home for 35 years. Joyce Sassman passed away on July 19, 2016 at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home in Fort Dodge, Iowa at the age of 83 years, eleven months, and thirteen days.
Joyce was the rock of her family; cooking and baking for family gatherings at her house brought her great joy. Her favorite days of the year were Thanksgiving and Christmas, when everybody would gather at her house. She enjoyed collecting frogs. Joyce loved to watch NASCAR, Hawkeye Football, and the Minnesota Vikings.
Joyce is survived by her four sons: Kim (Mindy) of Sherburn, Minnesota; Mark (Kim) of Kingsberg, CA; Tod of Fort Dodge; and Danny (Claudette) of Fort Dodge. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Joyce is preceded in death by her husband, Raymond; and two grandsons, Jeremy and Ryan.
