John C. Brown, 69, of Ft. Dodge passed away at his home on Tuesday, September 27.
John Charles Brown was born January 19, 1947, the fourth child of Harold E. and Nadine (Echelberger) Brown. John attended Ft. Dodge schools, and graduated in 1965 from Ft. Dodge Senior High. He then attended Iowa Central Community College for two years before joining the US Army. John served a tour in Viet Nam and was honorably discharged in August of 1969. He was united in marriage to Beverly McDowall and they became the parents of three children. They later divorced.
John was employed by Humes Distributing of Ft. Dodge as a truck driver for 27 years, retiring in 1999. He then worked for Electrical Materials Company for several years. John was a huge race car fan, and spent time traveling all over the United States with friends and family to see these races. He was a big country music fan as well, and especially loved the music of Merle Haggard. John enjoyed spending time with family and friends, didnt matter if it was going to races, music concerts, grilling, playing cards, drinking beer or listening to his nephew play guitar, he enjoyed life to the fullest.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Nadine Brown, and brothers Dennis Brown and Harold “Skip” Brown. He is survived by his sister Lynda (Joe) Rupp of Humboldt and brother William Brown of Ft. Dodge, son Scott Brown of Sioux Falls, SD, daughter Stephanie Lukehart of Granger, and son Shane Brown of Ft. Dodge, along with grandsons, Evan, Cade, and Bailey, sister-in-law Kay Brown, and special friend Joan Olson, both of Ft. Dodge, and many nieces and nephews. He will be missed by all.
Visitation with the family will be held at Historic Bruce Funeral Home, 923 First Ave. So., Sunday, October 2 from 5:00pm to 7:00 pm. Full military graveside services will take place at 10:30 am. at North Lawn Cemetery in Ft. Dodge on Monday, October 3. Friends and family are invited to a luncheon at JoJos Cocktail Lounge, 14 So. 11th St. immediately after the service.
