John Robert Clark was born July 10, 1917, the son of Robert R. Clark and Mildred J. Nydegger in Fort Dodge. In 1936 he graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High School and attended Kansas State College Military Electronics Program. On June 10, 1939 he was united in marriage to Betty L. Canavan in Hampton, IA. John dedicated his life to the military, enlisting in the army during WWII and retired in 1976 from the Iowa Air National Guard with a rank of Chief Warrant Officer W4.

Bob enjoyed traveling to Arizona, but always considered Fort Dodge home. He was a HAM radio operator and enjoyed radio contacts with other HAM's throughout the world. His greatest love was his wife, Betty who passed away in 1992. Bob always looked forward in joining his friends at Ja-Mar Drive In for coffee and conversation. He knew upon arrival at home, Skeeter, the family dog, would be waiting for him by the door. A fond memory of the two boys was pheasant hunting with their dad in the fall. When living in Arizona, he liked to take the grandkids out in the dessert to explore. John was a member of the American Legion, the Fort Dodge Amateur Radio Club where he volunteered his time to teach Ham Radio classes, the Lions Club where he helped with a lot of fund raisers, and was a member Corpus Christi Catholic Church.

Bob will be missed by his two sons; John R.Clark II and wife Diana of Ankeny, IA; James R. Clark and wife Jane of Houston, TX; six grandchildren, John R. Clark III of Ames, IA; Jeffrey Clark and wife Amy and children Brandon, Megan and Timothy of Flagstaff, AZ; Jason Clark and wife Stacey and children Max, Anna, and Freedom of Stratford, IA; Eric Clark of Flagstaff, AZ; Aimee Clark of Houston, TX; Mitchell Clark of Japan; several nieces and nephews; and one brother-in-law, Bob Williams of West Des Moines.

Bob is preceded in death by his wife Betty; infant son Joseph, parents, brother Richard Clark, sister Jean Williams, and sister-in-law Melba Clark.
