Jens P. Nelson

Jens P. Nelson, 86, of Fort Dodge, died Sunday, February 27, 2011 at the Gowrie Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 3, 2011 at the St. Olaf Lutheran Church with the Rev. David Grindberg officiating.  Interment will follow in the North Lawn Cemetery.  Visitation will be held Wednesday from 4 until 7 p.m. at the Bruce-Graham Funeral Home.

Jens was born June 10, 1924 the son of Carl and Fredricka (Peterson) Nelson in Thor, Iowa.  On July 3, 1955 Jens was united in marriage to Elsie Lanken in Webster City, Iowa.  To this union three children were born.

Jens had a heart of gold and enjoyed helping all his neighbors with their yards in the summer and snow removal during the winter months.  His neighbors all knew that Jens would have the right tools to fix whatever needed to be repaired.  He loved being outdoors camping, fishing, gardening or just relaxing, including riding his 3 wheeled bike all over.  He enjoyed the social interaction with his friends and numerous activities at the church.  Jens was a member of the St. Olaf Lutheran Church of Fort Dodge.

Those thankful for having shared in Jens life include his children, Mary (Tom) Scott of Davenport, IA, Kenny (Wanda) Nelson of Virginia, Connie (Pat) Oberg of Fort Dodge, IA, three brothers, Hans (Carol) Nelson, Harry (Irene) Nelson, Clarence Shorty (Carol) Nelson, seven grandchildren, Tommy, Elizabeth, Carrie, Michael, Jeremy, Eric, Patrick and one great-grandson, Brent.

Mr. Nelson was preceded in death by his parents, wife Elsie, sisters, Alice, Lela, Esther and brothers, Marvin and Elmer.
