Jean Morrissey
Jean Morrissey, 64, of Fort Dodge, died Tuesday, March 6, 2007 at her residence.
Funeral Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday March 12th at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Winterset with the Reverend Chris Hartshorn officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in the Winterset Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 until 8 p.m. Friday at the Bruce-Graham Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Fort Dodge.
Jean was born August 23, 1942 the daughter of Bernard Pat and Madolyn (Gordon) Morrissey in Winterset, IA. She graduated from Winterset High School in the class of 1960. Jean continued her education at the University of Iowa receiving her B.A. in Physical Education in 1964. She taught in Cedar Rapids before obtaining her Masters in Counseling in 1971 from the University of Northern Iowa. In 1971 Jean moved to Fort Dodge where she was a guidance counselor at Fort Dodge Senior High until 2004. In 1977 following the death of her twin sister Jane, Jean became Mom to Louis W. Bill Gavitt III and Sarah Gavitt and was known to many as Aunt Jean.
Jean had a passion for old wood carousels and had a goal of riding all of the remaining carousels in the country. Jean was very active for many years in the American Shetland Pony Club and the Midwest Classic Shetland Breeders Association. Jean was proud to be Irish and an Iowan.
Those thankful for having shared in Jeans life include her nephew and niece; Louis W. Bill Gavitt III, Sarah Gavitt, two brothers; Ed Morrissey of Phoenix, AZ, and James Morrissey of Vernon, TX.
Ms. Morrissey was preceded in death by her parents and twin sister Jane in 1977. And until we meet again may God hold you in the palm of his hand.
