Janis "Jan" J. Raveling

Janis “Jan” J. Raveling, 81, of Sioux Rapids, IA, died Thursday, July 11, 2024, at her home. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at the First United Church, 408 Thomas Street – Sioux Rapids. Inurnment will take place at Oakland Cemetery in Peterson, IA. Memorials may be directed to the family. Arrangements are with Historic Bruce Funeral Home of Fort Dodge. 

Janis was born February 15, 1943, in Spencer, IA, the daughter of Levern and Pauline (Mohror) Wetherell. She graduated from Sioux Valley High School in Linn Grove in 1960. On October 14, 1962, she married Dennis Raveling, and to this union two children were born: Jeff and Pamela. The couple later divorced. Over the years, Jan managed a bank but spent most of her working life at Anderson Pullets where she was the office manager. Her enthusiasm for antiquing was unparalleled; she devoted an impressive 45 years to collecting antiques. Jan found great joy in attending sporting events to cheer on her beloved grandchildren, their achievements filled her heart with pride. Jan also enjoyed fishing, boating and card club. She was a member of the Methodist Church where she also taught Sunday School.

Jan is survived by her companion of 44 years: Jim Wilson of Sioux Rapids; son: Jeff Raveling of Lebanon, TN; 6 grandchildren: Jared, Lacey, Jonathan, Derek, Matthew and Diedre; 10 great grandchildren: Kali, Bella, Ellie, Jayden, Korvyn, Bryson, Bryson, Christopher, Braylon and Bailey; a brother: Bill Wetherall of California; and many nieces, nephews and friends. She is also survived by Jim’s family including his daughter: Jennifer Christian of Spencer and her children: Connor and Morgan Christian; and his son: James Wilson and wife Jennifer of Sioux Rapids and their children: Jacob and Avery Wilson. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter: Pamela Pates; and 5 siblings: Ruth Miller, Max Wetherall, Dorothy Davis, Ione Sievers, and Doris Wetherall.
