Janet Kaye Gunderson

Janet Kaye Gunderson, 83, of Fort Dodge, IA, died Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at Fort Dodge Health and Rehab. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, June 14, 2024, at the Roland Township Cemetery (aka Old Dane Cemetery) in Callender, IA, with Pastor Deb Stano of Our Saviours Lutheran Church (Callender) officiating. Memorials may be directed to the family.  Arrangements are with Historic Bruce Funeral Home of Fort Dodge.  

Janet was born November 28, 1940, in Fort Dodge, the daughter of Viola (Bloomquist) and L. Oliver Hansen.  She graduated from Somers High School in 1958, and continued her education in Maryville, MO where she earned her Teaching Degree in 1961.  Over the years, Janet was a Teacher, Business Owner and Computer Consultant.   In her younger years, Janet was good at sports.  Her high school went 4 years undefeated in Softball and her team went to State in Basketball.   Janet enjoyed spending time with her family, traveling and taking care of her cats: Yellow Belly and Buster.  She also enjoyed clothing and shopping – especially the Home Shopping Network.  Janet was a member of Al-Anon.  

Janet is survived by her twin sister:  Janice F. Christopher and husband Lowell of Sibley, IA; 7 nephews and nieces:  David Hanson and wife Myra, Rodney Peterson, John Hanson and wife Kathy, Peggy Shahbazi and husband Otta, Duane Vetter and wife Mary, Derek Johansen, and Janelle Jensen and husband Brad.  She is also survived by many great nephews and great nieces.   

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother:  Marlin Hanson; 3 sisters:  Doris Hanson, Marlys Peterson and Belva Vetter; and 3 nephews:  Gary Vetter, Mark Peterson and Warren Hanson.
