Janet Elizabeth Benson

Janet Elizabeth Benson, age 87 of Ft. Dodge, Iowa died Tuesday April 25, 2017 at the home of her daughter Kathryn Merseal, also of Ft. Dodge, Iowa.  Cremation will take place immediately and the family is planning on a memorial service at Heartland Senior Apartments in Fort Dodge, Iowa at a later date.  Committal of ashes will also take place at a later date at undetermined locations.  Janet was born in Fremont Nebraska on April 23, 1930.  Her parents were John Edgar McMeekin and Winifred McMillan McMeekin.  She graduated from Lincoln High School in Lincoln, Nebraska and attended some college.  She spent most of her working career in the banking industry.  On February 6, 1965 Janet married Howard W. Benson in Lincoln, Nebraska.  Janet was an avid reader, enjoyed golfing and quilting as well as spending time with her family.  Survivors include her husband Howard, two daughters Kathryn Merseal  of Ft. Dodge, Iowa and Nancy Moore of Florida; and 8 grandchildren.  Janet was preceded in death by her parents, brothers John Edgar McMeekin and James Allen McMeekin.  Condolences may be directed to the funeral home or her daughter Kathryn Merseal at 1309 8th Ave. N in Fort Dodge, Iowa  50501.
