James L. Follett, Sr.
James Louis Follett, Sr., 87, died Saturday, September 16, 2006 at his residence under hospice care.
In Lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to the following; American Lung Association, The American Cancer Association, or the Hospice of Hamilton Co.
James was born March 2, 1919 the son of Louis and Julia May (Sumpter) Follett in Webster City, IA. He later graduated from Webster City High School with the class of 1937. As a young man James began working in the Follett Greenhouse which was started by his Grandfather in 1898. He later went to work at Treloar Motors. In 1939 he went to work for Zittrele-Mills Construction leaving them to pursue his employment with Beam Manufacturing in 1949. James remained with Beam until his retirement in 1981.
On July 2, 1939 James was united in marriage to Charlotte Gilday at the First Congregational Church, Webster City.
James was a sports car nut who owned numerous cars over the years and loved inspecting those that others owned. He was a member of the Sports Car Club of Iowa in the 1960s. James and Charlotte loved to go dancing and visiting with friends. He enjoyed being outdoors working in his gardens or taking care of the yard. James was a life long donor to the Blood Bank of Iowa. He was a member of the Elks Lodge, and former secretary of the Carpenters Union.
Those thankful for having shared in James life include his two sons; James Follett, Jr. of Webster City, Donald George Follett of Arkansas, two grandchildren; Darcey Follett, and Jason Follett, three great grandchildren; Kasie, Kaitlyn, Tyler and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Follett was preceded in death by his parents, wife; Charlotte in February of 2005, one sister; Catherine Nairn, two brothers; George and Donald Follett.
