James "Jim" Edward Smith

James “Jim” Edward Smith, 85, of Fort Dodge, IA, died Wednesday, December 11, 2024, at UnityPoint Health – Trinity Regional Medical Center. A celebration of life gathering will be held from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, at the Historic Bruce Funeral Home, 923 1st Avenue South – Fort Dodge. Memorials may be directed to the family. Arrangements are with Historic Bruce Funeral Home. 

James was born April 17, 1939, in Jefferson, IA, the son of Erleane (Morris) and Dale Smith. He graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High in 1958, and continued his education at Iowa Central Community College. Jim was a Master Mechanic for the Iowa Army National Guard for many years. Jim had a particular fondness for fishing, which provided him with countless hours of joy in nature's embrace. His passion extended beyond the water; he was also deeply engaged in the world of Hot Rods, finding immense delight in working on and showcasing these classic vehicles.  He was a past member of the American Legion.

Jim is survived by 3 children: Anthony Smith and wife Valerie of Grimes, IA, Teresa Carter and husband Rick of Fort Dodge and Rhonda Ferry of Fort Dodge; 9 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; sister: Jeannie Anderson and husband Dave of Fort Dodge; 2 nephews: Jody Anderson of Fort Dodge and Randy Higgins of Arizona; and 2 nieces: Kelly Clayton of Charles City, IA and Patty Higgins of Arizona. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister: Judy Higgins and husband Howard.
