James JB A. Balm
James “JB” A. Balm, 76, a life long resident of west side Fort Dodge, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, October, 17, 2004 at Trinity Regional Hospital. Beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend, James Balm, the 7th child born to Oliver and Cari (Carlson) Balm was born September 12, 1928. Raised on the west side, James attended and graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High School in 1946. He worked 2 years for the city of Fort Dodge before enlisting in the United States Air Force in 1948 and was honorably discharged in 1952. When James returned from serving his county he dedicated 42 years to the City of Fort Dodge. James was united in marriage to his best friend, Sharon M. Myers on November 20, 1959 at Riverside Methodist Church. To this union 4 children were born. James heart was always filled with love for his grandchildren. Never missing a sporting event until his health wouldn’t allow him to attend but would always inquire about the game. His love for kids has always been a part of James. He and various ministers were the first to organize the first Christian softball league in Fort Dodge. As a young person, James was an avid baseball player and a Cub fan for his whole life. He loved to dance with his wife. James enjoyed a good game of 500 with friends and family. James memories will be cherished forever by his wife, Sharon Balm of Fort Dodge; 4 children, Roger A. Balm of Fort Dodge and his children, Stuart, Jonathon, Dustin and Elizabeth Balm of Fort Dodge; Mary E. Balm of Fort Dodge and her children Daniel, Robert and Patrick Balm; James D. (Amy) Balm and Hanna, Jamie and Jenna of Boon, IA; Carol Lynn Teirnan and her sons, Brett, Brad A. Teirnan all of Fort Dodge, IA; Brother, Paul (Joan) Balm of Fort Dodge, IA; Harold (Hula) Balm Otho, IA; Sister, Betty B. J. Jones of Fort Dodge, IA. Mr. Balm is preceded in death by his parents, Oliver and Cari (Carlson) Balm; Brother, Karl Willard; Sisters, Virginia Gregerson, Charlotte Balm; half brothers, Robert Balm, Lorence (Larry) Balm; half sister, Grace.
