Jack Sorenson

Funeral Services for Jack Sorenson 68 of Fort Dodge will be Thursday, November 12, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at the Historic Bruce Funeral Home in Fort Dodge with Rev. David Grindberg officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, 5pm to 7pm and will continue on Thursday one hour prior to services. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the United States Marine Corps, the Fort Dodge V.F.W. Post 1856 and the Patriot Guard.

Jack L. Sorenson was born January 29, 1947 in Fort Dodge, Iowa to John and Dorothea (Johnson) Sorenson. He attended Fort Dodge Public Schools. Jack served in the United States Marine Corps as a sniper in a four man kill team during the Vietnam War. After his service, he returned to Fort Dodge. He was united in marriage to Norene Rushton

on March 21, 1969 at St. Olaf Church in Fort Dodge. To this union three sons were born; Shannon, Butch and Jack Jr. Jack worked security for Sparboe Company and other various companies for over 25 years. He was very proud of his Lakota Sioux heritage. “Hoka Hay” ( a good day to die), was one of Jack's favorite greetings. He was a member of the Marine Corp League and St. Olaf Church. He enjoyed fishing and carving little wooden canoes which he was proud to share with his family.

On November 7, 2015 Jack Lester Sorenson died at his home surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife Norene, his sons, Shannon, Butch and Jack Jr. all of Fort Dodge, 8 grandchildren; Ames (Katie) Mitchell, Cheyanne Sorenson, Morgan Gill, Houston Sorenson, Ethan Sorenson, Cowan Sorenson, Keegan Sorenson and Kadin Sorenson, 3 great grandchildren; Emmett and E.J. Thompson and Quinn Carpenter. Jack is also survived by a sister Doris Quillen of Nevada, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson Shannon Jr. 4 brothers and 1 sister; Richard, Jerry, Gerald, Alvin and Helen.
