Howard Whittington, 83, of Fort Dodge, died Saturday, December 10, 2005 at the Trinity Regional Medical Center following a lengthy illness.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, December 15, 2005 at the St. Olaf Lutheran Church with the Rev. David Grindberg officiating. There will be no visitation.

Howard was born February 11, 1922 the son of Ralph and Margaret Mae (Swigert) Whittington in Correctionville, IA. On August 25, 1943 Howard was united in marriage to Lorraine Carpentier in South Sioux City, North Dakota.

Howard was an avid pheasant hunter walking many miles over the years in search of the ultimate bird. He also enjoyed fishing, horseback riding and playing cards. Howards interests included watching western movies and boxing on TV. Over the years Howard and Lorraine were admired for there parental guidance they instilled in the many young lives they touched.

Howard was a member of the St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Fort Dodge.

Those thankful for having shared in Howards life include his wife of 62 years; Lorraine, one son; Richard Whittington of Crete, NE, three grandchildren; Jeff (Kim) Whittington, Greg (Terry) Whittington, and Renae Whittington, seven great grandchildren; Ashley, Zachary, Bryce, Kamri, Katelin, Mitchell, and Draven Whittington, and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Whittington was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters; Lillis Kolesar, and Marty Stanberg, one brother; Francis Nichols, and one nephew; Joe Stanberg.

Bruce-Graham Funeral Home and Cremation Center is in charge of arrangements.
