Horace L. Moreland, 89, of Fort Dodge, IA, died Saturday, October 12, 2024, at UnityPoint Health – Trinity Regional Medical Center surrounded by his family. Public visitation will be held from 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM on Thursday, October 24, 2024 at the Historic Bruce Funeral Home, 923 1st Avenue South. Private family services will be held with interment at North Lawn Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family. Arrangements are with Historic Bruce Funeral Home of Fort Dodge.
Horace was born August 26, 1935, in Newnan, GA, the son of Thomas S. Moreland and Frances M. (Paige) Jones. He attended Ruth Hill School in Newnan. In May of 1958, he was united in marriage to Lillie M. Brown in Chattanooga, TN. The couple moved to Fort Dodge in the late 1950’s. Horace worked for Kalo Brick & Tile. He then later retired from the City of Fort Dodge after 20+ years. His hobbies included golfing, fishing, and having his coffee. Horace enjoyed sharing his homemade bottles of wine with family and friends and playing BINGO, where he often yelled falsified bingo.
Horace is survived by Lillie M. Moreland of Fort Dodge; his 3 children: Larry (Stephanie Rea) Shepard of Dayton, OH, Terry Moreland of Fort Dodge, and Bernice Moreland of Fort Dodge; 5 grandchildren: Amy Hoskins, Ashley Shepherd, Tanika Moreland, Martel (Carina) Moreland, and Andrew Leslie Jr; several great grandchildren; brother: Rufus (Mary) Moreland of Dayton, OH; and sister: Kathy Hill of Dayton, OH. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 3 children in infancy; sister: Jeannie Jackson; and brother: Richard Moreland.
