Harold K. Stewart, 81, of Coalville, IA, died Sunday, October 24, 2021, at Unity Point – Trinity Regional Medical Center. A gathering of family and friends will be from 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM on Sunday, November 7, 2021, at the Historic Bruce Funeral Home, 923 1st Avenue South – Fort Dodge. At 5:00 PM Military Honors will be conducted by VFW Post 1856 and the U.S. Army Honor Guard. Memorials may be directed to the family.
Harold was born September 27, 1940, on the family farm east of Coalville, IA, the son of Kennith and Caroline (Slawson) Stewart. He graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High in 1959. In 1963, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and proudly served his country during the Vietnam War era until his honorable discharge in 1965. Harold worked for Vincent Clay Products until they closed. He then worked at Celotex until his retirement. Harold enjoyed shooting (sometimes 3 times a day), prairie dog hunting with his brother, stock car races, horseback riding, dressing up & playing Santa, a nice cup of coffee and breakfast at Tom Thumbs nearly every morning. He was a Boy Scout Leader and enjoyed teaching the boys. He also enjoyed Civil War Reenactments, Rendezvous and spending time at the Fort. He was a member of the NRA (lifetime), the American Legion and the Fort Dodge Riffle and Pistol Club, where he shot on the pistol team for many years. He was also a member of the Fort Dodge Chili Lovers Cook-Off Society and was a self proclaimed Grand Chili Wizard. Harold was a history buff and a ladies man who liked simple things.
Harold is survived by his son: Don Stewart and wife Traci of Story City, IA; 4 grandchildren: Kevin Stewart of Ankeny, IA, Cody Stewart of Ames, IA, Casey Stewart of Ames and Dustin Stewart of Ames; 3 great grandchildren: Olivia, Carson and Mia; and a sister: Janet Stewart of Urbandale, IA. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother: David Stewart.
