Harold ‘Hulla’ Balm, 75, of Otho, died Saturday, January 08, 2005 at the Trinity Regional Medical Center, Fort Dodge.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday January 13, 2005 at the Bruce-Graham Funeral Home and Cremation Center. Officiating will be the Rev. Harry Imlay of Riverside United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in the Fort Dodge Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 3 until 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
On January 6, 1930 Harold was born to Carrie Amelia (Carlson) and Oliver Edwin Balm in Fort Dodge. Harold served his country with the United States Army as a Paratrooper from January 20, 1948 to January 24, 1952. Harold was united in marriage to Beverly Hulett on Nov. 11, 1956. Harold enjoyed working at Eddie’s Grocery as a stocker for many years. Later he worked at Eddie’s Lounge and Sam’s Big 3 Market. He was a member of the VFW Post 1856. Harold loved softball especially fast pitch. Harold was a member of the 700 club and competed in many bowling leagues and he playing numerous card games.
Harold is survived by his 3 children; Dena (Terry) Heim of Otho, IA; Ammie (Julian) Lara of Otho, IA; Mark (Terri) Balm of Otho, IA; 1 sister, Betty Jones of Fort Dodge and Paul (Joann) Balm of Fort Dodge; 7 grandchildren, Heather, Ben, Nick, Julia, Crystal, Rebecca and Jessica; numerous nieces and nephews. Harold is preceded in death by parents; his 4 brothers, Lawrence, Willard, Karl and James; 3 sisters, Charlotte, Virginia, Grace.
