Gordon “Gordy” Edward Porter Jr. was born May 27, 1955 in Fort Dodge, Iowa to Gordon E. and Wanda Mary (Lynch) Porter Sr. He attended school in Fort Dodge and graduated from Fort Dodge High School in 1973. After graduation, he entered the U.S. Army. Upon discharge from the Army Gordon returned to Fort Dodge and worked for Chicago Northwestern Railroad for 10 years He then attended Iowa Central Community College graduating in 1988. Gordy then was a machinist at Electrolux. He enjoyed collecting railroad memorabilia, antique beer cans and small town historical items. His pride and joy was his 1954 Chevy truck, which he has been restoring for 40 years. Gordy was an avid Hawkeye fan, member of the Fort Dodge Pistol & Rifle Club, a Harley Davidson rider and had a great sense of humor.
On September 15, 2015 Gordy Porter died at his home in Fort Dodge, Iowa. He is survived by his wife, Bette, sons; James and Jake, daughter, Jana and three grandchildren, Taylor, Caden and Corbin. He is also survived by 7 brothers and sisters; Michael “Mike” (Sue) Porter, William “Bill” Porter, Joseph “Joe” Porter, Lisbeth (Steven) Quick, Mary “Kathy” Porter, David (Cheryl) Porter, and Leslie (Bill) Chamberlain and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He is also survived by his two dogs Jeb and Roby. He was preceded in death by his parents.
In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred.
Memorial services will be Saturday, September 19, 2015 at 2pm at Prairie Lakes Church 200 Ave 0 in Fort Dodge. Burial of cremated remains will be at a later date in Memorial Park Cemetery.
