Gertrude May Long
Gertrude May Long, 91, formerly of Fort Dodge, died Tuesday, September 26, 2006 in Springfield, Oregon where she had been a resident since 2000.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, October 2 at the Oakland Cemetery, Fort Dodge. Visitation will be held before the service on Monday at the Bruce-Graham Funeral Home from 9 a.m.-12 noon.
Gertrude was born on August 1, 1915 the daughter of Henry and Cora (Biddinger) Nelson in Boone, IA. She worked as a Physical Therapist for Mercy Hospital for fifteen years and Trinity Hospital for five years. Gertrude enjoyed her time in the kitchen. She especially enjoyed baking cakes.
Gertrude was united in marriage to Marvin Echelberger, she later married George Thompson, and some time later was united in marriage to Raymond “Johnny” Long.
Those thankful for having shared in Gertrudes life include her children; Kenneth (Patricia) Echelberger of Grand Prairie, Texas, Ronald (Terry) Echelberger of Aurora, Colorodo, and Richard (Laura) Thompson of Springfield, Oregon, siblings; Vera Schnell of Fort Dodge, Harold Stewart of Lima, Ohio. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Gertrude is preceded in death by her parents, and one grandson
