Gerald E. Straight, 34, of Fort Dodge and Des Moines, died Tuesday, August 24, 2021, in Johnston. Services will be held at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the family. 

Gerald was born May 14, 1987, in Fort Dodge, the son of Ricky L. and Lisa E. (Marnach) Straight. He attended Fort Dodge Senior High before entering boot camp for the U.S. Army. On October 7, 2017, he was united in marriage to Jamie L. VanEvery at Oleson Park in Fort Dodge. Over the years, Jerry worked in the entertainment industry. He loved nightlife and enjoyed working as a bartender and bouncer. He had a great love for food and was an excellent cook. Jerry also enjoyed music, cheering on the Green Bay Packers, traveling, chatting with others, video games (especially Skyrim), storm chasing and spending time with the family & having fun with the kids. He was a big kid himself. He was loud, vocal, goofy, loving and an all around amazing person. He would give the shirt off his back to help anyone in need but was often pouring from an empty cup.

Gerald is survived by his wife: Jamie Straight of Auburn, IA; father: Ricky Straight of Fort Dodge; 3 siblings: Shane Marnach and wife Amanda of Mechanicsville, IA, Ashley Straight of Fort Dodge and Diane Wicker and husband Dave of Fort Dodge; and grandmother: Joann Marnach of Fort Dodge and Lilly his daughter.  He is also survived by his nieces and nephews: Rebel, Freya, Chase, Roman, Asia, Ashley, Aaron, Sophia, Annabelle, Serenity and Taryn.

He was preceded in death by his mother: Lisa Young; 2 grandfathers: Mike Marnach and Jerry Straight; aunt: Mary Jo Marnach; niece: Mattie; and mother-in-law: Terrie VanEvery.
