Georgiana Brayton, 94, of Fort Dodge, IA, died Monday, January 11, 2021, at Friendship Haven (Journeys). Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, January 18, 2021, at the Historic Bruce Funeral Home, 923 1st Avenue South, with Rev. Jennifer Osheim-Owen of Friendship Haven officiating. Interment will take place in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM on Sunday, January 17, 2021 at the funeral home. Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, social distancing must be followed and masks are required. Services will also be live streamed via our Historic Bruce Funeral Home Facebook page. Memorials may be directed to the family.
Georgiana was born March 26, 1926, in Pierre, SD, the daughter of Albert T. and Helen Mildred (Logan) Sorenson. She attended Pierre High School. On August 12, 1945, she was united in marriage to Kenneth L. Brayton in LuVerne, IA. Georgiana worked as a Clerk at Sears (12 years) until her retirement in 1980. Georgiana enjoyed spending time with her family – especially her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. She also enjoyed bowling, softball, swimming, canning, gardening, crafts, bird watching, reading, taking care of her flowers, and playing cards & dice (500, Rummy, Cribbage and Chicken Feet). She traveled to Texas many times over the years as well as most of the United States. Georgiana was a member of the United Methodist Church in Otho and served on the Coalville PTA.
Georgiana is survived by 4 children: Helen Cookman of Fort Dodge, Roy Brayton of Roy, UT, Karen Koenig of Cortland, IL, and Darlene Holst and husband Gail of Otho; 12 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; 10 great great grandchildren; brother-in-law: Wesley Brayton of Fort Dodge; and sister-in-law: Ruthann Brayton of Sheffield, IA. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her grandparents; her husband in 1996; a son: Marvin Brayton; 2 brothers: Robert G. Sorenson and Merle Sorenson; and 11 brothers and sisters-in-law: Walter Brayton, Dale Brayton, Frances Brayton, Harley Brayton, Ione Kimberling, Ruby Brayton, Jeanneen Brayton, Norma Brayton, Louise Sorenson, Melvin Kimberling and Doris Sorenson.
