George Larry Vass, 83, of Moorland, IA, died Thursday, January 28, 2021, at Friendship Haven in Fort Dodge. Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM on Saturday, February 6, 2021, at the Historic Bruce Funeral Home, 923 1st Avenue South, with Rev. Jim Davis of Gowrie, IA officiating. Interment will take place in the Elkhorn Township Cemetery in rural Moorland with Military Honors conducted by the VFW Post 1856 and the U.S. Funeral Honor Guard. Due to COVID-19, social distancing must be followed and masks are required. Services will also be live streamed via our Historic Bruce Funeral Home Facebook page. George was born August 9, 1937, in Toledo, OH. Following high school graduation, George spent nearly 17 years proudly serving his country in the U.S. Army and U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. On New Year's Eve in 1985, George was united in marriage to Elsa Kaplan in Panama. George worked as a U.S. Customs Inspector before returning to Iowa. George enjoyed camping, fishing, gardening and raising produce. He loved taking care of his cats and dogs. George was a member of the VFW.
George is survived by 2 daughters: Angela Vass and Kathy Vass – both of San Antonio, TX; sister-in-law: Mary Ann Imholte of Milwaukee, WI; nieces and nephews: Eric Imholte, Aaron Imholte, Jeanette Costas, Michael Vass, Marguerite McNamee and Christina Vass; and a half brother and half sister. He is also survived by his neighbor and good friend: Reed Eldal of Moorland.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and wife in 2019.
